Keep this tab focused and visible; background tabs are throttled and will read low. If you have a high-refresh monitor but see 60 Hz, check your OS display settings — many monitors ship at 60 Hz by default.
The single most common surprise on this test: a 144 Hz gaming monitor reading 60 Hz. That's almost never a measurement error — monitors ship at 60 Hz and both Windows and macOS keep them there until you manually change it (Windows: Settings → Display → Advanced → refresh rate; macOS: Displays → Refresh Rate). Laptops add another trap: many switch to 60 Hz on battery to save power. We use the median frame interval, so a busy system dropping occasional frames won't skew the reading — but a heavily loaded machine or a battery-saver mode can cap frame delivery below the panel's true rate.
